Rick and I have a wonderful adoption agency, Families Thru International Adoption (www.ftia.org). Vietnam is one of the countries they service, but like many others, there is legal "stuff" going on that is preventing adoptions from taking place at this time. There are currently 23 families from our agency that received referrals for children LAST YEAR from an orphanage in Vietnam, but due to the legal crap, they won't let the kids leave the orphanage. Many of these kids are closing in on 2 years, and are not growing or developing properly because their main diet consists of rice porridge and they have little stimulation. Meanwhile, their families in the US are getting picture updates of their children and are waiting helplessly for some type of decision to be made in Vietnam.
They started a blog to make people aware of the situation and to document their mission efforts. These families are arranging trips to Vietnam in 3 to 6 week intervals, to hold and love their children, buy them fresh foods from the market, bring them toys, and play with them! It is a remarkable story, very touching. They are asking for donations to help pay for food, plane tickets and any other travel expenses. Rick and I donated all of our sky miles in hopes that at least one parent can make it to their child. On their blog, they have a list of prayer requests as well. There are currently 2 adoptive parents there now with the children. Please take the time to read their story!
